Keeping Youth Athletes Strong, Healthy and Performing at Their Best
How we help
The Importance of Youth Strength & Conditioning
Here are the key reasons why a well-designed S&C programme is vital for young athletes:
Physical Development & Movement Quality
Injury Prevention
Enhanced Performance
Long-Term Athletic Development & Health
Psychological & Life Skills Benefits
When & How It Should Start
- Age & Maturation: Fundamental movement training can start as early as 6–8 years old, focusing on bodyweight, coordination, and mobility. As children approach puberty (roughly 12–14), resistance training can be safely introduced, always with attention to technique and supervision.
- Approach: Personalised progression, ensuring movement competency precedes volume or load. Regular assessment and adjustment. Emphasis on fun, variety, and positive coach/athlete relationships.
- Balance: Movement quality + strength + mobility. Avoid focusing only on one at the expense of others.
Why Movement In Motion is the Right Team for You
We believe effective youth S&C is best when embedded in the environment where the athlete trains and competes. Our partnerships with Camelot RFC, Parmiters School, Dacorum, and Tring Athletics Club allow us to:
- Coordinate with coaches to align training with matches, school schedules, and sport-specific demands.
- Offer group sessions in club settings, ensuring consistency and peer motivation.
- Monitor progress in competition environments for real-world applicability.

Our Impact Through Local Collaboration
By working with Camelot RFC, Parmiters School, Dacorum, and Tring Athletics Club, we can:
- Reach young athletes in rugby, athletics, and school sport across different settings.
- Ensure consistency between what happens in clubs/schools and in S&C sessions—less conflicting training, less risk of overuse or fatigue.
- Provide more access: group times, shared facilities, and coordination with club calendars so that young athletes can balance academics, sport, and rest.
- Have direct feedback loops: coaches at clubs & schools communicate with our S&C staff; we monitor field performance, injuries, and adapt training accordingly.
