Sports Massage

Sports massage is a specialised form of massage therapy designed to address the needs of athletes, active individuals, or people experiencing muscular tension. It focuses on areas of the body that are overused or stressed from repetitive movements and intense physical activity. The techniques used in sports massage often include deep tissue work, stretching, and trigger point therapy.

Alleviates Pain
Addresses chronic pain, soreness, and discomfort from physical exertion or repetitive strain.

Increases blood flow, delivering oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and helping repair tissue.

Mental Relaxation
Sports massage can also reduce stress and improve focus by calming the nervous system.

Prepares Muscles for Activity
Pre-event sports massage helps warm up muscles, increase flexibility, and reduce the risk of injury during physical activities.

Massage Therapy Appointments

Massage therapy appointments (deep tissue/sports massage) do not require a separate assessment. Your therapist will ask you a few questions regarding your health and mobility as part of your treatment.

Your therapist will develop a tailored treatment plan, give an idea of how many sessions you will require to recover from your injury or manage your pain and discomfort.

This 45 min appointment will give us a clear picture of any recent or past injury/pain and determine the best treatment package for you. We will assess your range of movement and mobility using the most up-to-date assessment tools and techniques. Our therapists will perform some hands on massage treatment to start you on your journey to recovery. By the end of the session you will have a greater understanding of your injury or pain related condition and leave with a clear treatment plan, home exercises and free, unlimited telephone support.

Generally, a sports massage aims to reduce any muscle tension, muscular pain, or discomfort you are experiencing. A sports massage aims to increase your range of movement and decrease muscle stiffness and soreness. It helps reduce recovery time, aids sleep quantity and quality.

During a sports massage, toxins from within the muscles will release, this could lead you to feel a little bit sore following your 1st treatment. This feeling could last a couple of days. The feeling of soreness should reduce as you have more treatments.

Typically, a massage therapist will ask you to undress to your level of comfort. You will be covered over with a sheet for the areas not being worked on. It is recommended that you wear shorts for a sports massage if you are having treatment on your legs. For back, neck, and shoulder treatments the therapist will need direct contact with the area. There is a space for you to change your clothes before and after if needed.

Treatments will vary depending on the conditions you present and the treatment you have chosen. An initial assessment will help determine the best line of treatment for you.

For Massage Therapy, we recommend a minimum of 3 sessions to improve your mobility.
